DeColores 1626 S Halsted St
Been coming here for years, since they took over fat dog. The food is great, the drinks are great, and lots of beer choices. Most importantly you need to make sure Shanon is your waitress, SHE IS THE BEST!!. I hope the owner reads this and gives her a raise, she deserves it.
two days ago was our first time in this fine restaurant. But It is no doubt not the last time. We had a good time with the courteous service, with the excellent meal and wine and with the modest charge. We will absolutely return there again.
The service was great!! Not so much for the food... I still feel the heartburn from the mole.
My wife and I love this hidden place with great food and friendly waitresses,I would totally recommend this place to my family and friends great chefs fantastic way of preparing Mexican food with color and taste no wonder the name speaks for itself...Decolores.
My friends and I enjoyed it! Great mole, although I wasn’t the biggest fan of the spinach enchiladas
I had the Cameron pasta, which was tasty, but I'd skip it and get the Wild Mushroom Enchiladas. My mom got em and I somehow convinced her to switched me. The other two in our party had the carnitas and albondigas which were also . Overall, it's worth a try. If I lived here, I'd frequent.
My husband and I have never left a restaurant expecting to have order a full meal. It was terrible. The margaritas were the worst either one of us have had and the queso fundido was watery...? So gross. Even the flour tortillas were bad (not even homemade and somehow they messed up the texture of store bought tortillas). Do not go here.
I need to start hanging out in Pilsen more... As mentioned before this place is easy to miss, it is hidden and doesn't seem like a whole restaurant. Came here on a Saturday, late afternoon, it was dead dead inside, so you know I was already worried, but worries set aside I dove in... PROS: Tequila selection deso, they have some good ones, not a lot of quantity but some good ones to make up for it Service - was on point, keep in mind it was dead, so everything came out super-fast, and Amanda gave us some great recommendations, thank you again! Portions were good for the price, y'all know I like sharing dishes, and everything was smashed and had enough to go around CONS: · Ambiance/vibe - could be better, this isn't a major CON at all, I feel like it just doesn't match how good the food was if that makes sense, there was an upstairs I believe but I didn't get a chance to check it out, to busy stuffing my face. What I vouch for: Mole Poblano - like everything on the plate was fye (apparently award-winning) Barbacoa Tacos - "fire sign" House salsa/chips and guac Tres Leche - Yo, I usually don't rock with this, but after speaking w/ Amanda, I gave it a try, legit, even took a pic. A hidden gem in my book, this was my first time here, so I'll go back and update accordingly, but for now 4/5 in my book. Oh, check out the artwork around here, it's so dope! Until next time Team...
Nice ambiance, bartender makes superb drinks and the food was tasty.
Chef Enrique Cortes
Amazing hospitality, authentic flavors,Micheal the bartender very knowledgable ; an overall a great experiwnce
This used to be my favorite Mexican food in Chicago. I lived across th street and went nearly every day. I left Chicago about 10 years ago and would visit a couple of times a year. The last couple of years have been less enjoyable. Visiting this past Sunday I've realized that it has lost its charm. The service is no longer friendly, the current manager was hostile and took 20 minutes to set up our table we had made a reservation for. It was not busy but it took forever to get the server. You used to get the chips and salsa when you sat down. Asking for chips our server (the manager) got upset and responded would you like to order an app. The steak burrito was one of my faves and recently. they decided to "elevate" the meat and put big chunks of chewy beef that pulled out in bites that were far bigger than bite-size. The refried beans were replaced with some sort of baked pinto beans that no one in our party ate.
This spot sure knows how to serve their clients. Constantly with a helpful attitude. The food is conveniently priced, constantly yummy and neat.
We were a group of friends planning to try a new place. My friend had reservations they got to the place not even acknowledge they were not even ask if they had reservations or how many of even if there was a wait . They felt discriminated we decided to leave.
Service was Great. Staff is friendly. Nice small and cozy place with some great Cafe de la olla
This place is a must! The flavors are amazing! From the complimentary salsa, to the pozole, to the enchiladas de mole. I will, definitely, go back. A hidden gem.
Overall the atmosphere is lovely at this place, however that's where it stops, and leaves the restaurant lacking. Granted it is a small place, and my husband and I came in on a weekend night, the whole time we were there, we never felt welcomed or important as a patron. Being pretty full we were sat in a booth by the kitchen/bathroom door. (Being sat back here wasn't the restaurant's fault, however it definitely ruined our first visit/excitement to try out a new place/experience). Once seated, our hostess gave us chips and salsa, which were pretty good, and filled our water glasses. Salsa was a bit spicy so if that's not your thing stay away from it. After looking over the menu we quickly decided what we wanted to eat however it took our waiter who never introduced himself about 20 mins to acknowledge us and ask for our orders. Skipping any drink orders and going only for the food, it took the kitchen about 30 minutes to make our food which I had to return. I ordered Camarones Diabolicos (shrimps) which smelled horrible. I had to track down another server to help us out because our server was pretty much MIA all night. The second server apologized and made me the same burrito as my husband which came out in 10 mins. Our missing server didn't come back to our table until we had almost finished our meals. He didn't apologize for the food we had send back or show any concern for it either. When did we get a re-fill on our water? As we asked for our check... I shouldn't need to hunt down my server for these basic necessities. Food = B- Service = F Atmosphere= B (music was too loud and it was too dark)
This place was fine, but I stopped going there after they stopped being BYOB.
Unassuming storefront, but excellent food within. Creative "Mexican" food at surprisingly reasonable prices. Don't come if you're looking for a taco joint--this place is miles above that on the culinary ladder.
Authentic flavors, growing gem and delicious drinks. Fast service. Great food.
A great venue with delicious food and awesome service. We hosted an event in the upstairs for a neighborhood fundraiser and the space was great! Many of us spent time on the first floor at the bar and the service was great. We will definitely host another event there.
Juana Cruz Tollinchi
Food was excellent and their vegan menu had excellent choices. Highly recommend it!
Service was great. Small, quaint location. The bartender suggested a custom drink by my preferences. Reasonably priced.
This place is outstanding! Great food and customer service is on point. Thank you!!
Great food!!! Very interesting and creative for sure.. we found this on Yelp and we will come back!!!
The food was decent, however the music was blaring loudly, so loudly that I couldn't have a conversation. People in the restaurant we're all looking around and they seemed oblivious to the customers. Overall, there was nothing impressive about this place and the customer service was poor.
Pretty clean bathrooms and restaurant, they have a variety in their menu, vegan and regular. Their pastor tacos were super good $14 for 3 tacos with rice and beans to the side little pricey for 3 tacos but the flavor was worth it. I had pozole vegano $9 pretty good, tends to get on the sweet and sour like flavor but I enjoyed it, it was a different experience.
We saw this restaurant featured on Chicago's Best and decided today would be the day to try it. BIG MISTAKE!!!! May our waitress was so unprofessional and inexperienced these are the reasons why : We waited about 10 before she came to our table and please understand the restaurant is small and it was empty! We asked about the difference between the OG tacos and the barbacoa tacos she only said you pick the toppings Mexican or American We had to flag her down all the time She removed the menus after we ordered the appetizer which made us feel like leaving -we felt unwelcomed!!! I wanted to leave after we ate our appetizer but my husband wanted to try the food. I ordered the og tacos and I could only order all the tacos one flavor --which did not allow us to try the different kinds and my husband asked for a WELL DONE tampiquena which was not cooked well done!!! The food lacked flavor on top of all the above mention negative issues! Clearly we would never return!!! The owner never addressed our table but addressed every other table!!!!! Horrible service and unfavorable food!!!! NO REASON TO EVER STOP IN THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!!!!
Vegan options are freaking delicious ! The strawberry mango pico de Gallo is really tasty.
The food was authentic and delicious. We experienced great service, very accommodating with families.
This place was okay. It's an apparent trend, taking ethnic dishes and toning them down to make them more suitable for the mainstream palate. I had the pozole which is a traditional Mexican soup served on the weekends. It's very rich with chunks of pork and hominy and various side additions.
Friendly peeps. Great drinks and food.
Haven’t found better Mexican than this...on the Southside at least . Very good
Very Uncomfortable slow service. Waiter actually thought it was cute he kept forgetting our drink's, appetizer, food.. at one point he admitted he forgot our drink's and had to ask again what we wanted. Besides that, the food was not great. My shrimp were salty (and I like salty) but these were a bit much for my palate. Also, Small portions which is unusual for a authentic Mexican restaurant. The beans served were cannellini beans!!! Not pinto nor black. Still confused about that. Overall there was no spice at all on anything we had. Again, Not common for authentic Mexican food. This could all be because I've had really good Mexican food as I am Mexican and so for those reasons I would not go back.
My husband and I have been going to DeColores for a couple years now and we love it. Our last visit tonight was even BETTER because they recently did a bit of a facelift on some of their meals and the general vibe. The guacamole appetizer was amazing and our margaritas were fabulous (and we drink a lot of margaritas). It was wonderful for a peaceful, sit down meal together.
Yummy food. Absolutely excellent service. Can't go wrong! They serve fresh cucumber water and warm chips with salsa. We got the pork soup as an appetizer (Delicious) and I got the tampiquena (soooo gooood!!!!) my steak was cooked perfectly. I will definitely be coming back!
amazing Jamaica tacos! vegan options are great
Food quality could be better...it needed more flavor something was missing...
This place is easy to miss from the outside. But, it's worth finding. The Taquitos de Papa were very good - stuffed with potatoes and topped with thinly-sliced squash, beets, carrots, and cabbage.
Stopped in here while I was trying to find my way home and had an AMAZING ginger lemon margarita.
Delicious food, great ambiance, awesome drinks!!! Sergios hard work and culinary skills are truly reflected in every aspect. Me and the hubbys favorite place for date night!!
